Recent Arrivals - ACOUSTIC GUITARS
Bourgeois O custom This pretty little thing followed us home from the 2010 NAMM Show (NEW) As guitars go, we've never seen a prettier guitar. If a picture is worth a thousand words, hopefully the pics will do the talking and we can just shut up. Wouldn't that be a refreshing change? Seriously, Dana Bourgeois has tossed his hat into the "O" ring and his "O" is as good as it gets. Oh Brother! Lots of warm feisty bottom in this particular Adirondack topped O and that is not something that can be said about all O's. O's are generally light in the loafers when it comes to the low frequencies. This O has got it. It's our first O from Dana, but it will not be our last. It's a dandy. DB Signature purfling, short scale, 1 and 3/4" nut width, bone pins, koa binding, snakewood knobs, pyramid bridge. SOLD
Bourgeois Koa O custom Speaking of custom O's that follow us home from NAMM Shows, check out this gorgeous little 2010 Summer NAMM Show koa "O" from Dana Bourgeois! (NEW) Nicely figured koa with Bearclaw Italian spruce top, short scale, 14 fret, 1 and 3/4" nut width, bone pins, small pyramid bridge, Ziricote binding and heel cap, snakewood knobs on Gold Waverlies, koa butt wedge. It's sure a nice guitar to look at, but don't buy it because it is pretty. Buy it because it sounds GREAT. The select Italian spruce top really adds some sustain and complexity to an already magnificent small guitar. List

Bourgeois Brazilian DB Signature D From what we've been told by those who really *do* know, the Brazilian rosewood shortage has reached the critical stage and the upcharge for the remaining Brazilian and new Brazilian guitars will be sky high very soon. (Witness the fine new SC model 1934D at $17,995) so we of the "get it while you still can" club have hit up all our favorite builders for some Brazilian orders. The first to arrive will be from the ever-competent wood shop of Dana Bourgeois. (NEW) The always tasteful DB Signature D in figured Brazilian rosewood with premium Adirondack spruce top, figured koa body binding, 1 and 23/32" nut width, fossil ivory bridge pins, rosewood butt wedge and heel cap and HIDE GLUE construction throughout. As one last finishing touch, and to complement the koa binding, we asked Dana to add snakewood knobs to the nickel Waverlies. It is sure to be a great guitar to look at, and might be the right opportunity for someone you love to join the club - the Brazilian club that is. But all of that might just be membership recruitment propoganda. Buy it because it sounds GREAT. Play it and listen to it appreciate. List

Bourgeois Vintage D Brazilian
Hide Glue
Just arrived (NEW) While we still can, we are having Dana Bourgeois build us another vintage style dreadnought with this great set of Brazilian rosewood and Adirondack spruce. We're going with his light build, thin finish, and HIDE GLUE constuction on this one and dressing it up with fossil ivory bridge pins. A true vintage-style dreadnought. A powerhouse of a guitar with loud teeth-rattling volume but a complex and highly detailed voice. Nice. (BB) RESERVED
Bourgeois V2MD
Very Vintage Mahogany D
Hide Glue
Custom
VARNISH
Just arrived (NEW) OK, We've been having so much fun with these custom hide glue Country Boys. This will be a fifth variation on the theme: This wil be one of the new VVMD "Very Vintage Mahogany Dreadnought" (as introduced by Dana Bourgeois at the 2008 NAMM Show) that will have 1 and 23/32" nut width, 2.2" saddle spacing, spruce head and end blocks to reduce weight, ebony body binding, ebony butt wedge, mammoth ivory nut, HIDE GLUE construction...etc.) This one will be custom for us and will feature master grade Adirondack top, Dana's "presentation" inlay on the headstock - ( no fretboard dots, black ebony pins and black ebony strap button) and VARNISH finish! At 4.0 pounds, it is everything we had hoped for. Dana's varnish guitars are now on a par with the other very best varnish guitars. This is the best Bourgeois mahogany dreadnought we have ever heard. SOLD
Bourgeois Very Vintage Custom D

SUNBURST
Just arrived (NEW) This is our first SUNBURST VVMD, and what a beautiful sunburst it is. Sorry for the glare on the photos - still too cold here to get outside for natural lighting, but Spring is coming! Here's our sixth custom variation on the theme: lightly built Very Vintage Mahogany D (as introduced by Dana Bourgeois at the 2008 NAMM Show)but will have the standard 1 and 23/32" nut width, 2.2" saddle spacing, spruce end block, ebony body binding, ebony butt wedge, HIDE GLUE construction...etc.) This one will also feature a medium-light sunburst and Dana's new "thin" poly finish. This guitar will have a list price of $4,950 and we expected it to be fabulous, and it did not disappoint. SOLD
Bourgeois Very Vintage OM
Adirondack
Hide Glue
Just arrived (NEW) This is our first "Very vintage" OM from Dana, our newest variation on the theme: lightly built (3.7 pounds) with 1 and 3/4" nut width, 2 and 5/16" saddle spacing on belly bridge, spruce end block, ebony body binding, ebony butt wedge, HIDE GLUE construction, mammoth ivory nut, bone saddle, Adirondack top with Adirondack braces, etc.) This guitar will have a list price of $4,295. As with all the hide glue guitars, this guitar has lots of detail to the sound and has perfect balance and lots of sustain. The hide glue difference is very subtle. Some players hear it more than others. SOLD (JH) SOLD
Bourgeois Country Boy OO Just arrived (USED) Very recent - Country Boy OO - a super light short scale 14 fret OO. Very cool. A small guitar that does everything with unexpected flair. 1 and 23/32" nut width, Sitka topped mahogany guitar. VERY clean lightly used guitar. Excellent + condition. #5019 $2,350
Breedlove OM 42 style custom Private Stock (NEW) We keep a few (well, more than a few) good guitars tucked away here at AMW, and we bring them out when the market suggests that timing is right. Since the recovery is on and the Big Dogs are spending again, we've started pulling a few special pieces out of the vault. Here is one really GREAT sounding custom BRAZILIAN rosewood OM with sweet German spruce on top. This is one (Number Nine of Ten) of the OM Revival "Calendar" models Kim Breedlove built in 2007. 1 and 3/4" nut, abalone snowflake inlay, 42 style abalone top border, Waverly tuners with ebony knobs, and 25.5" scale. We've really come to appreciate Breedlove's more traditional "Revival" series guitars and this guitar was one of the ones that won us over. Just a great high end flatpick or fingerstyle guitar that stands in good company here at AMW. #9838 The list price is $10,250. Our price is MUCH MUCH lower. INQUIRE INQUIRE
Breedlove OOO 41 style custom Just arrived (NEW) We spotted this beauty at the Summer NAMM Show in Nashville and it followed us home. A really GREAT sounding BRAZILIAN rosewood OOO with amazing (in appearance and tone) heavily bearclawed Sitka spruce on top. 1 and 3/4" nut, slotted headstock, pyramid bridge, 12 fret neck joint, abalone snowflake inlay, 41 style abalone top border, and 25.5" scale. We've really come to appreciate Breedlove's newer more traditional "Revival" series guitars and one strum and this one requires no more explaining - that's for sure. They've earned our respect with this series. Just a great high end flatpick or fingerstyle guitar that stands in good company here at AMW. #13169 The list price is $9,250. Our price is MUCH MUCH lower. INQUIRE INQUIRE
Breedlove OOO KOA custom Just arrived (NEW) We are big fans of koa wood here and we think a 12 fret OOO showcases that warm and clean reverbery thing that good koa guitars have. This is a good koa guitar. We used to say about the Revival series that they sounded liek Martins and played like Taylors but we think that sells them short. They have a tradtional voice with modern playability and they stand on their own. We find they are very versatile and they play well with others. This custom guitar has tightly flamed koa with Sitka spruce on top. 1 and 3/4" nut, slotted headstock, pyramid bridge, 12 fret neck joint, and 25.5" scale. You'll continue to see a lot of the Breedlove Revivals here at AMW. We think they represent the best value in a traditional guitar today. #12640 The list price on this koa custom is $4,799. Our price is MUCH MUCH lower. INQUIRE INQUIRE
Breedlove Chris Hillman FF mandolin Just arrived (NEW) After a few too many mamosas for breakfast, we almost tripped over this beauty at the Summer NAMM Show in Nashville. After one course of Whiskey Before Breakfast on it, I had to ask "is this a BREEDLOVE?". Now I do not mean to sound critical as we have always carried and always liked Breedlove mandolins, and feel they have a unique voice that complements our other more "traditional" sounding mandolin lines. Well I am here to tell you, it wasn't the mamosas (or the Whiskey) this mandolin has bark and snort and throaty gurgle like the big boys. Imagine our surprise (or not) when we noticed the special label and were informed that this is the CHRIS HILLMAN Signature model prototype. Now that makes sense - a mandolin designed for and in cooperation with Chris Hillman would need to make the grade, and it does. We like that Breedlove uses the 1 and 3/16" nut, abalone fern inlay, Loar style bridge, and an abbreviated ebony pickguard on this model. We also like the exceptional flame maple on the back and the Adirondack spruce on top. And the dark sunburst is perfect. If you've been to AMW, you know we've got rooms full of killer mandolins. Welcome one more to the fold. #13288 The list price is $5,350. Our price is MUCH MUCH lower. INQUIRE INQUIRE

She's all dark sunburst, nickel hardware, and pickguard. Everyone (everyone!) wanted to take her for a spin so she had to go back to Austin for a clean and buff, but she's all ours now. One of the highlights of the show - Collings has nailed it - coupled the dark mandola voice with modern playability. Everyone should have one. $4,250 SOLD

Collings SoCo Dark Cherry SB Just arrived (NEW) Fresh from the 2010 Summer NAMM Show in Nashville. The Collings SoCo is our best selling electric and we have a bunch (say, ten) special order SoCos being built right now for our beloved customers, but we cannot seem to keep one in stock. So it was great news to hear that good old Bill had put together a SoCo in one of our favorite colors (Dark Cherry SB, which we prefer to call "Doctor Pepper") for the NAMM Show. We swooped in and made it our own. Can you blame us? Premium Quilt top, big headstock, parallelograms, top purfling, Collings tuners. Handsome. Fabulous. Scary good. List Price: $ 6,700 $6,030

Collings AT-16 Just arrived The tobacco classic. Smoke this: Collings does everything exceedingly well. But without reservation, we think the best representation of the man's work can be found in his archtop guitars. Few and far between, always highly anticpated, and usually sold before arrival - the 16" Collings L-5 style archtop. Ready?? SOLD
Collings D1A
Vintage Now
in transit (NEW) The D1A is our favorite Collings guitar and our best selling model. For those of you who are large of hand and lovers of tone: We present the D1A with VINTAGE NOW neck (1 3/4" nut, girthier profile, 2 and 1/4" saddle spacing). For some reason (could it be the neck?) we always hear a little something "extra" in these gutiars. List price: $4,775 $4,297
Collings C-10 Just arrived (NEW) Here is something unusual for us - an off the rack, stock, no custom features Collings guitar. Plain, simple, and good: a standard C-10 with Sitka top and 1 and 11/16" nut width. Probably all the guitar most of us really need! Just four pounds of GREAT sound. Collings C-10 custom
Deep Body Doghair
Just arrived!! (NEW) Straight from the 2010 Summer NAMM Show in Nashville, this deeply resonant C-10 custom DEEP BODY, Blackface, DOGHAIR back and sides, ivoroid bound, 1 and 3/4" nut width, standard scale mahogany rabble rouser. These are always particularly impressive "small" guitars, and this one is a dandy example. Exceptionally loud, lots of fun, with growl and punch. Kind of a rock and roll acoustic, we think. List Price: $ 5,700 $5,130
Collings C-10 custom
VARNISH
Just arrived!! (NEW) We're pretty proud of this one. We've found that the Collings C-10 is the Swiss Army knife of that prestigious line and can do anything well, depending on which way you choose to slice it. After three glasses of wine one night in early 2009, Moe pondered the "ultimate" C-10 and here is what he came up with: C-10, Mother Nature's best mahogany back and sides, Adirondack top, Style-3 backstrip, Deep (dreadnought depth) body, 1 and 3/4" nut width, standard scale length, fingerboard binding and purfling, peghead binding, OM style "Camper" neck with Collings "flourish" inlayed in peghead veneer, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, dark Gibsonesque sunburst top, nickel Waverly tuners...and oh yes, almost forgot......VARNISH!! We think it is our effort yet where the C-10 is concerned. The guitar weighs 3.5 pounds and sounds like a million bucks. $8,850 SOLD (GS) SOLD
Collings OM1A custom
VARNISH
Just arrived! (NEW) Collings OM1A-VARN, Adirondack top (of course) 1 and 3/4" nut, BELLY bridge (standard, light or medium strings A-OK) nickel Waverlies, TORCH inlay on the peghead, tortoise binding all over, VARNISH. Just perfect: 3.7 pounds of singing mahogany joy. Loud, rib rattling light, full and warm. Perfection! $7,550 (JC) SOLD
Collings MT-2 MANDOLA Just arrived Announced with prototype model shown at The NAMM Show this past January, Collings has perfected his highly anticpated mandola and has a small handful of these puppies ready to ship. We asked for the best of the first batch and Alex hand-picked the blonde one for us. We always have trouble resisting a blonde, so stop by and help us explore the deep CC GG DD AA world of mandola - Collings style. That's Charley Rappaport in his AMW studio applying the first licks. SOLD
Collings Collings
Nugget
Tim O'Brien model
Just arrived (USED) In 2003, Bill Collings and Mike Kemnitzer of Nugget Mandolins began a collaboration that resulted in a total run of 35 mandolins based on the iconic Nugget #2 A model owned by one of our favorite musicians, Mr. Hot Rize himself, the venerable Tim O'Brien. This mandolin was #3 of the series and was purchased new from Mike Kenmitzer. It went back to Nugget for a custom pickguard and a new compensated bridge saddle at some point. The instrument has been owmed and played by a very fine musician and good friend of ours, who just happens to be the founder of the Pittsburgh Mandolin Orchestra. It has some medium-light scratches (see the swirls on the headstock from string changes) and some fret wear and a few dings on the treble bout of the instrument. It is seven years old (2003) and has developed a marvelous throaty "Nugget" voice. We just cleaned it up and strung it with D'addario FT-74 flat wound strings and it seems to like them. It has a very fine one piece back (all Tim O'B models have gloss back tops and satin finish sides and back) and nickel Schaller tuners. These are extremely fine mandolins - it would be hard to find a better sounding A model mandolin at any price. SOLD
Collings D41 MR A
NAMM
Just Arrived - 2010 NAMM guitar (NEW) Built for display at the 2010 NAMM Show, the fabulous Collings D41 in VERY fine Madagascar Rosewood and Adirondack spruce. Perhaps the finest set of MadRose we have ever encountered. Other vital statistics include the flowerpot inlay on headstock, 1 and 3/4" nut width, 42 style snowflake inlay on fretboard, abalone rosette and purfling, fancy Brazilian rosewood headstock veneer, and style three backstrip. Sounds as good as it looks. The tone cannot be described in words. Honest. List

Collings D2H-G
VARNISH
Just arrived (NEW) Several years ago we discovered that we like German spruce on East Indian rosewood the way we like Adirondack spruce on mahogany. It just seems to represent a perfect marriage of tone and makes for a guitar that is more than the sum of its parts. Speaking of "parts", we are always tinkering here, and have found that adding Adirondack braces to the German top adds just a bit more headroom and power to a German topped guitar. So did we stop there? Of course not, we added VARNISH. So what do we have here? A powerful and sophisticated sounding guitar that does everything well. 1 and 3/4" nut width, of course. List

Collings D2HAV
Vintage Now
VARNISH
Just arrived (NEW) WOW! A positively *stellar* sounding D2HA (Adirondack top) with that great V (Vintage Now neck) in VARNISH! Every now and then (well, more frequently than that with Collings, let's be honest) we get a guitar which totally floors us. This is one of those jaw-dropping guitars. Pure killer. Is it the master grade Adirondack? Is it the Vintage Now neck? Is it the VARNISH? I don't know, but this guitar has "it" in every way. We call them as we see them here. Dare we say it? Can it be "BETTER" than BRAZILIAN? As we say every now and then: For those of you who ask us to call when something VERY special comes in: Consider yourself called. List

Collings SJ custom
Rosewood/German
SS SB
Just arrived A model we have vowed to evangelize, as it gets less press than other Collings models, but deserves better treatment! 14 fret East Indian Rosewood mid-jumbo with GERMAN spruce top, SHORT scale, SUNBURST, simple log dot inlay pattern on fretboard and "flourish" inlay on peghead, 1 and 3/4" nut width, CUTAWAY, nickel Waverly tuners, and lots of zing. Based on the Gibson J-185 (think Everly Brothers) shape, SJ's are sized somewhere between the OM (too small?) and dread (too big?), have a tight waist and ergonomic hourglass shape that makes it comfortable to hold and play. They have a certain electric vibe to them and are often the last guitar needed to makes one's collection complete. Perhaps the most versatile "gigging" guitar that Bill builds if you are looking for the one Collings model that puts out all fires and does everything well. This one is a beauty with a medium-dark style two sunburst. List price: $6,350. Ordered for store stock! Call us crazy, but we're selling three to four Collings a week here. Recession? Re-schmeshion. Collings C-10 Maple
Art Deco
Just arrived - 2010 NAMM Show guitar (NEW) You know how we venerate the C-10 model here. Here is one of a kind - from the playful mind and capable hands of Bill Collings. When we had Bill here this past Summer, we had all just returned from the Summer NAMM Show with the insanely cool maple Art Deco Collings ukulele. I asked Bill if he would consider building a matching C-10 guitar for us, and he loved the idea. Fast forward six months - this is that guitar, and it is a doozie. Maple C-10, Sitka top, black binding, Art Deco headstock and bridge, 1 and 11/16" nut, black bound soundhole, Peghead brand (mechanical geared) tuners that give the guitar a sort of Flamenco flair. It is the lightest Collings maple guitar we have ever handled, at just under 3.5 pounds. This guitar sings. It is warm. It is sweet and unique. Not sure if Bill plans to make it a production model. We think it sounds best played fingerstyle, but it can be flatpicked quite nicely and it comes with a (black) C10 pickguard, just in case. At this time, the guitar is one of a kind and mighty special. Note: The C-10 is moving to Boulder... SOLD (BD) SOLD

Mahogany
Just arrived - Special order (NEW) A new idea for us - a very cool custom C-10 guitar - this one in mahogany with sitka top in SHORT SCALE. Another AMW shop specialty. This is our take on an L-OO style country blues box in SATIN finish (all over) with Camper (OM) style neck, dark sunburst finish, tigerstripe pick guard (on the side), Waverly tuners with ebony knobs. Wow! This satin finish is really thin. Can this small guitar really be making all this sound? Seriously - you must hear this thing. List

CUTAWAY
Just Arrived (NEW) So...have you been listening to Pete Huttlinger at all? You really should. We all should. After doing so, we've concluded that there is only one thing more satisfying than a Collings OM1A guitar with a cutaway, and that is an OM1A with a cutaway and a Collings Style One sunburst. And a 1 and 3/4" nut width, of course. One of these and one of Pete's instructional videos and a weekend of woodshedding - instant motivation. Here is what we say: Stop watching the cable news shows - and watch Pete do this. Now get back on that guitar. And get back in style. List

Collings OM1A - Koa Just arrived - (NEW) Something mighty pretty and very special. Basically an OM1A hopped up with high grade Hawaiian koa. That's an OM1 with extremely high grade exquisitely figured koa back and sides and a fabulous wide grain Adirondack top. It's got a style three back strip and tortoise bound body, neck and headstock and ebony knobs on Waverly tuners. So it resembles our fancy customs OM1As but it is koa. It is lightly built, it is fabulous looking and it has all that "dark" tonal quality where koa excels. Not quite as dry as mahogany, koa has a dark reverby sweet warmth to it, with a bit of complexity. It's a GREAT guitar and we know it will look great in your lap! C'mon by and noodle on it. Business has picked up nicely, thanks for asking. Looks like we (the collective we, I hope) may all have turned a corner. Let's stay on track. SOLD
Collings CW MhA - VARN CW Mahogany
VARNISH
Just arrived (NEW) The iconic Collings CW in mahogany and Adirondack spruce dressed to kill in va-va-va-VARNISH. A model that quite often successfully takes the buyer off the market forever, a CW is about as good as a guitar can be. Every CW we get is killer. A CW in varnish? OVER-kill. Hooo Boy!! Honest to Pete....This CW really kicks butt. 4.0 pounds, with a fullness of tone that is remarkable, really. Played side by side with a varnish D1A, the D1A has slightly more percussive woof, but there in an openness and mid-range sparkle to this particular CW and rumble in the upper bass that slices and dices, seriously, like nothing we've ever heard. In that it is our first VARNISH CWMhA, by the way, I suppose that is why it sounds like something we have not heard. Duh.... Is it better than the D1A-Varnish? NO - but it is different enough that it would be *really* hard to choose between the two. List

Collings D1A VARNISH Just arrived (NEW) Been without one of these tonemeisters for about six weeks now. It will be good to get some fresh and aromatic stock into our famed varnish "huff" room. Wouldn't you know it, a D1A Varnish with a few nice options: 1 and 3/4" nut width, Vintage Now neck and bridge, Adirondack braces, no tongue brace, cut thru saddle, Brazilian rosewood peghead overlay. A guitar which requires no explanation. Just exclamation. This one is a loose cannon, with very robust bass, woody warmth, and volume to spare. That Vintage Now neck always seems to add a little something to the nether regions tonally. If you are looking for "the one to go to war with", this could be the artillery you have been seeking. 4.2 pounds, this pistol packing Mama. Take no prisoners, indeed. SOLD(JB) SOLD

VARNISH
Just Arrived (NEW) Thanks to our loyal customers and some dynamite new ones, we've just had the best August we've EVER had and the September orders are coming in fast and furious. I don't want to jinx anything, but I am ready to say that things are returning to normal here. Speaking of "normal", the model that keeps the bills paid here at Moe's House of Mahogany is the ever-popular Collings D1A. This one is one of our custom orders for which we requested, and received, "perfect" wide grain Adirondack spruce for the top and perfect free-of-figure mahogany for the back. To make it pre-war "ish", and CW-ish, we had them build it light and leave out the tongue brace. To dress her up, we added fretboard and peghead tortoise binding and a fancy torch on the headstock inlayed in Brazilian rosewood. We put a 1 and 23/32" nut width at the business end of this fabulous machine and we put the CW style 2 and 1/4" saddle spacing on her, just to make her go faster. We didn't put any dots on her fretboard, cause we know you don't them, but we did have the Collings logo inlaid at the twelfth fret. We figure Collings deserves credit for this guitar, and with that cool torch on the headstcock, the brand goes slightly incognito. This amazing sounding thing is a lightly built guitar, weighing just under four pounds. Oh and did I mention? The Three V's: Varnish, varnish, varnish. List

VARNISH
Just Arrived (NEW) August ended and September started here with seven Collings sold in seven days. Let's keep that streak going. This gorgeous thing is another one of our custom orders for store stock. For this one we selected a set of unusually beautiful *tight* grain Adirondack spruce for the top and some very nicely figured flamed mahogany for the back. This one *does* have the standard tongue brace and is the standard build, weighing about 4.4 pounds. We've added fretboard and peghead tortoise binding and crosscut ivoroid purfling and a fancy torch on the headstock inlayed in striped ebony. We went with a 1 and 3/4" nut width on this machine with standard 2 and 3/16" saddle spacing on her, just the way you like. We didn't put any dots on the fretboard, cause we know you don't need them, but we did doll her up with the CW style pickguard. Really pretty. Sound? Vim, vigor, and volume. Huss & Dalton TDR custom
Honduran Rosewood
Bearclaw Italian Spruce top
In transit (NEW)The TDR is the classic traditional dreadnought. No one builds a finer traditional dreadnought than Huss & Dalton. Over the years we have been asked to spec the loudest dreadnoughts that will cut through a Bluegrass jam. We have found consistently that Honduran rosewood (even moreso than Brazilian) provides the ultimate in cut and volume. H&D have a particulalry good feel for the Honduran, and a particularly good supply. We generally top the Honduran guitars with Sitka, but have been persuaded by the good people at H&D to try the slightly stiffer Italian Red spruce for even more volume, increased sustain, and complexity of tone. This one was ordered with drop-in saddle instead of the standard cut thru saddle and without any aging toner so that the subtle bearclaw figure in the Italian spruce could show. Honest: If you are looking for the ultimate bluegrass dreadnought and you haven't tried one of these, your search is not yet complete. List

Antique Brass
Just arrived (NEW) - One more steel body ResoRocket please, a custom model this time. A 12 fret cutaway resophonic wonder, same pearloid headstock, maple neck, 1.825" nut width, and 25" scale. This one will feature the "antique brass" finish. To be clear, this is a steel guitar, and the finish is called "antique brass". G-R-E-A-T sounding reso with that big open sound - really a versatile guitar. According to Bob Brozman, "The Reso-Rocket is sonically a hybrid between the single cone and the tricone sounds! (60% single/40% tricone). It is a single cone guitar, but the tricone-like upper grilles and the more closed coverplate both change the way the air flows above and below the cone. It seems that the more open upper grilles contribute a lot to the tricone sound. Another GREAT feature of this guitar is the cutaway allowing access to all the highest frets. This instrument is VERY loud, and it has tremendous cutting power, making it a great axe for all kinds of music... List price on the special edition Antique Brass ResoRocket" $ 3,985 - JUST ARRIVED. Collings OM1A cutaway Just arrived (USED) When we sold this new a few years ago, we said this about it: "Truth be told, Moe guesses that the 15,000 Collings guitars in circulation are in the hands of 5000 or 6000 very smart and fortunate people, because as we all know - once you have a Collings, you want a second and a third Collings. Face it, Collings owners are a pretty elite group. With serial # 15001, Collings has turned another corner, and reached another milestone. Speaking of some round corners, how about the handsome shoulders on this - perhaps the ultimate all-around guitar - a Collings OM1A with Adirondack spruce top, CUTAWAY, and 1 and 3/4" nut width, of course. This guitar does everything well from light fingerstyle to aggressive flatpicking. It's difficult to find something that this guitar will not do. At 3.6 pounds, she is light, and she is ready. She's got mojo. She's visually rugged with some serious barn wood on top. We added a style three backstrip just to fancy her up a bit, but she can speak for herself. She's woody, she's sweet, and she is in fine voice. Want some satisfaction in these trying times? Join that small group of people who own one of the finest things money can buy. Stay strong. Play hard. Get serious." We still feel the same way. At $3,750 this nearly-new condition guitar is a steal. $3,750
Collings OM1 Just arrived (USED) (2004) When we sold this OM-1 guitar new a few years ago, we said this about it: "all the guitar anyone really needs" and we still feel the same about it. We sell a lot of exotic, fancy and expensive guitars here, but a man could find complete happiness with this basic mahogany and sitka spruce Orchestra model, built by the finest guitar company in history. Face it, Collings owners are a pretty elite group. Here is a painless way to join that elite group: The Collings OM-1 with 1 and 3/4" nut width. Used, but extremely well kept - with nothing beyond light scratches. It is still basically "new" to look at and a thing of ultimate beauty to play and hear. Includes original hard shell case. $2,650
Collings Clarence White BaaaA Just arrived (USED) A fourteen year old (1996) Collings Clarence White model. #2203. One of the originals - in VERY fine (EXCELLENT++) condition with off-the-charts crazy straight Brazilian rosewood and very fine Adirondack spruce and "Collings" labeled Waverly tuners, ivory pins and strap button. Collectible, playable, irresistable. Inspiration on a stick. The Brazilian rosewood is 95% straight with the slightest of swirl at the edges. Fossil ivory bridge pins and strap button. The sound is just as you would imagine. No further explanation required except to say that not everyone needs, can afford, or deserves a guitar like this. But if YOU are that person, you have our number. A very special guitar for the right person... $11,500 ON CONSIGNMENT - Fresh pics! SOLD
Collings D1A VARNISH Just arrived (USED - barely!) Well! It's not every day that someone consigns a "used" Collings D1A Varnish here. But, today was just such a day! Seriously folks, we've said enough about the D1A - it is our favorite model and our best selling Collings. And we've probably said too much about varnish - the biggest development in guitar tone improvement we have ever heard. So let's just cut to the chase: Here is a virtually un-played D1A Varnish with 1 and 11/16" nut width. It is everything you have been reading about and looking for and hoping to have one fall in your lap: A "used" D1A varnish that is indistinguishable from "new". New, these list for $6,600 and sell for no less than $5,940. This one weighs 4.3 pounds, is clean as the proverbial whistle, rings like the proverbial bell and will sell for $5,150. Call us, fax us, e-mail us. This will not last long. $5,150
Collings D1A Just arrived (USED) A particularly open sounding four year old (2006) Collings D1A in VERY fine (EXCELLENT+) condition with hardly a hint of use and some mighty fine Adirondack spruce with just a touch of bearclaw, and that cool CW dalmatian pick guard. The guitar is currently strung with light gauge strings and has nice growl - not sure that this one needs mediums. The action is medium-low (between 3/32" and 7/64") and is just a delightful strummer and light flatpicker. It has the highly desirable CW style "in between" nut width of 1 and 23/32" with the perfect 1.5" string spacing as well. SOLD
Collings OO-42 Koa A sb custom Just arrived (USED) EXC.++ condition - Ready to adorn our humble lumber emporium for a short time, this custom OO42 Collings eye-popping is a visual wonder built with what can only be classified as *retirement grade* flamed and curly koa, this magnificent specimen features a perfect light "style one" sunburst over the finest Adirondack spruce top. The small short scale guitar has a slotted headstock and a very desirable custom nut width of 1 and 3/4". It has the 42 style purfling of course and the best 3 on-a-plate bronze Waverly tuners with ivoroid knobs. The fabulous look is topped off with abalone rosette, dalmatian pickguard, and pyramid bridge (2 and 1/4" saddle spacing) and the classic pearl and abalone torch on the headstock. We cannot imagine a prettier gutiar. The setup is dead-on perfect and the sound is nothing short of amazing. Why someone would part with a guitar like this is a total mystery to us. Call us perplexed, but we are mighty pleased to spend some time with this guitar. We're basking in the glow of this Koa treasure. Few people can afford a guitar like this. If you are one of them, you should treat yourself. It just doesn't get any better. SOLD
Collings OM3 Brazilian Just arrived (USED) A sixteen year old (1994) Collings OM3 with very pretty Brazilian rosewood. #1188. An older Collings that has been played and enjoyed but remains in VERY good condition. With magnificently figured Brazilian rosewood - the highly desirable stuff of dreams with all that cool black spider-webbing and color. The sound is warm and WIDE open - an OM that can be convinceingly flatpicked right along side of any dreadnought. Fossil ivory bridge pins and end pin. GREAT sound. ON CONSIGNMENT - SOLD (TP) SOLD
Collings SJ 42 BaaaA Just arrived (USED) A ten year old (12/00) Collings SJ42. One of those off-the-charts crazy good guitars that come along every now and then. Built with what was selected and reserved as the highest of AAA grade Brazilian back in 1999. Might as well call it *Dalbergia Unobtanium* now, as we can only dream about wood like that today...or you can own wood like that tomorrow if you purchase this guitar. Your call. Collectible, playable, irresistable. This SJ will warm your heart. Seriously folks, looking for a *killer* SJ with Brazilian and Adirondack the likes of which you have never seen? Say no more. It's a world class guitar, and not surprisingly, it includes a white deluxe Calton case. The nut width is 1 and 11/16". The bridge pins are fossil ivory. The Brazilian rosewood is stupifyingly straight. The sound is as you would imagine. Can't think of anything else to say...ON CONSIGNMENT SOLD

Mahogany
Adirondack
Just arrived (USED) As "used" guitars go, this is about as clean as they come. We hesitate to use the word "mint", but this one is very close. It is very rare to find a used guitar in this condition. Any marks on the photos are reflections. This machine is CLEAN! It is rare to find a mahogany SJ, and this one has great looking Adirondack spruce on the top, as God intended. And 1 3/4" nut width, as He prefers. The guitar really sounds fantastic. The previous owner must have played it with gloves on, as it has a well developed sounnd with nary a hint of wear. A little tighter, brighter and lighter in the bass than a D1A, but a GREAT clean and versatile flatpicker and fingerstyle guitar. If you live to play, this could be your raison d'etre. SHORT SCALE
Just arrived (USED) Like the SJMhA above, this is about as clean as they come. We hesitate to use the word "mint", but this one is very close. This one was a custom order with very special master grade Adirondack top, Adirondack bracing, SHORT SCALE, and 1 3/4" nut width. Thius SJ is virtually identical in appearance to the one above, except this one has the simpler style one backstrip, crazy good Adirondack, and has the short scale. The short scale feels good and brings out some additional warmth and subtlety. While the guitar has more responsive bass and softer balance than a D1A, it works well for all playing styles. If you already have a D1 or D2H that you love, this would be a fine and comfortable companion. It is virtually new and is priced to sell quickly. ON CONSIGNMENT $4,250
Collings SJ
Rosewood
Cedar
(USED)(Exc.) The Collings SJ is an extremely versatile guitar. Sized somewhere between an OM and a Jumbo, it has a tight waist and sits low on the leg like a small body but its substantial lower bout helps produce a volume and tone that is well.."jumbo" by definition. We've sliced and diced the SJ in maple, Brazilian, mahogany/Adirondack, Koa/German, and a few other combinations. Here's a relatively rare but very James Taylor-esque combination - East Indian Rosewood and Western Red Cedar. 1 and 3/4" nut width, Schaller tuners with ebony knobs. From some builders, this might be considered the ultimate *fingerstyle* or DADGAD guitar, and it certainly works well in that capacity - but being a Collings, it is not afraid of a flatpick and I dare say this guitar can do just about anything - if you are up to it. If James Taylor played a Collings, this would be the one. SOLD
Collings OM2EssSB Just arrived (USED) OM2 (no herringbone) East Indian rosewood Collings Orchestra model with a medium dark sunburst on a tight grain Englemann spruce top, 1 and 3/4" nut width, and SHORT SCALE. If you think Collings guitars are "stiff", you've never played an Englemann topped short scale Collings OM. You've been hanging out at the wrong guitar shops! This maginifcent guitar is easy to look at and easy to play. Easy on the eyes - easy on the fingers. Buttery smooth and sweet, loose but not lazy, easy on the left hand, but still mighty responsive. It *is* a Collings, after all. Warmer than usual, a magnificent fingerstyle OM. An ideal "second" Collings for the lucky person who already has his D2H or D1A. An ideal first Collings for someone struggling with lesser guitars. Sold here new a few years ago - back ON CONSIGNMENT $3,250
Collings 0002H Just arrived (USED) A seven year old (2003) OOO, this one is rosewood/sitka with standard nut width and slothead. Very warm and open sounding. Played but no abused. Minimal fret wear, no dings. Pyramid bridge with 2 and 5/16" saddle spacing - great for fingerstyle or flatpick. Really fine sound and here ON CONSIGNMENT. SOLD
Collings OM2H
KOA
Just arrived (USED) A TWELVE year old (09/98) Collings OM2H in highly flamed Hawaiian KOA. The nut width is 1 and 3/4". The Waverly tuners are gold. The Koa is highly flamed and the Sitka top has darkend nicely. The sound is as you would imagine, warm and full with lots of dark reverby "there" there. Likes to be flatpicked, but is a marvelous fingerstyle guitar also.....There is one lonely ding on the top (shown in the photos). If you like Koa, you'll love this guitar. Even if you don't like koa, you'd probably still love this guitar. ON CONSIGNMENT SOLD
Collings Baby
SB
Just arrived (USED) A six year old (2004) Collings Baby, this one with a great style 2 sunburst. The nut width is 1 and 11/16". We haven't seen a lot of Babies come through since Collings started building the "O" model, but this guitar reminds us why we like the Baby so well... effortless playability and a great from as a result of the 24 and 1/8" scale length. It's essentially a 3/4 size version of the Collings OM. As with all things Collings, looks can be deceiving. This little guitar has a big voice and would be a superb tool for a songwriter or road warrior. East Indian Rosewood, beautiful sunburst, nickel Waverlies, bound neck and bound fretboard (nice) with just a few dings (lacquer impressions, nothing serious) on the top and back and lots of happy strummer's brush scratches around the pick guard. Happy Baby indeed! Current list would be $4,600 - New LOWER price! SOLD

custom
Just arrived (USED) - Collings C-10, with stunning style one sunburst. A great light 14 fret *short scale* mahogany blues guitar with 1 and 3/4" nut width and a very responsive sitka spruce top - with added ivoroid body and headstock binding, nickel Waverly tuners and belly bridge. The short scale takes away some of the usual Collings torque and stiffness and replaces it with a transparent percussive crispness and deep sustaining big easy sizzle. All the gain without the pain. Yup, with deference to our New Orlean brethren, we gotta call this one "the Big Easy". Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans? Used but clean. Nice. We sold it new. It's nice to see it back here. You know what we mean. SOLD
Collings 0001-G Just arrived (USED) From another thoughtful and trusted customer, this fine Collings OOO. We've sold this good customer a few mighty fine guitars, and we've taken a few in trade from him. He knows his guitars and his trades and consignments are always a worthy adventure. This Collings OOO is graced with some fine figured mahogany and beautiful tight grain German spruce, 1 and 13/16" nut width, no pickguard, pyramid bridge, 2 and 5/16" saddle spacing, and slotted headstock. That is a wood combination that we know well and we are delighted that it will be here ON CONSIGNMENT. Fresh pics. Sweet sounding guitar! It is warm with sophisticated overtone, soft but never mushy, and has impressive sustain. It is a fingerstyle guitar that is equally suited for standard tuning or open tuning, but it is a killer drop D or open tuning six string. $3,250
Collings CJ Mh A sb
1997
Just arrived (USED) Always nice to run into one of these old hosses. Here's a perfectly preserved and well kept "CJ" from 1997. A twelve year old workhorse built during the Clinton administration and just rounding the first lap of what will be a long and glorious ride. The label reads simply "CJ" (as Collings used to do) but this guitar is more specifically a CJMhAsb as is evidenced by the pics and verified by Collings. So, 12 years of fun: Adirondack top, ivoroid binding on body, neck, and peghead, 1 and 3/4" nut width, dark Collings sunburst. It's got some very pretty mahogany that has to be seen close up to be appreciated. The guitar had a pickup at one time which has been removed and the end pin jack has been replaced with an end pin plug (shown in pics). It is a splendid sounding CJ, currently strung with light gauge strings and plays like butter. It's got one or two tiny dings and a mark or two here and there. Not pristine, but precious. Original Collings case, etc. Very Good thirteen year old Collings guitar with a new lower price! ON CONSIGNMENT SOLD

Flammang D-30 black top Just arrived (USED) (EXC. +) Another great consignment from a very good customer. This is our first Flammang (David Flammang of Greene, Iowa). It was built in 2003 and it wears serial # 87. It is a lightly built exquisitely crafted guitar that is clearly built and set up to be played fingerstyle. It has no pickguard and the action is set at 5/64" at the 12th fret. Unusual, at least for us, to think of a dreadnought as a "fingerstyle" guitar as the great majority of our dreadnoughts are heavily strung tools for hairy armed bluegrassers. This guitar is built with a bit of refinement that might disqualify it as a "hairy-armed bluegrass" guitar but it certainly excels at complex fingerstyle and blues and open tunings. It's a bit more pino than Pabst, a little more James Taylor than Jimmy Martin. Reminds us of a certain 1944 Martin D-18. Very light, advanced forward shifted X brace, scalloped. The fit and finish is about perfect, this lightly braced Adirondack topped guitar responds to a light touch and the tone is balanced, and the feel (1 and 23/32" nut width, V-neck, 5/64" low action)is un-real. A great singer-songwriter guitar with a certain Johnny Cash vibe. Hey Porter! $3,250 ON CONSIGNMENT. $3,250
Gibson Elvis Presley Dove (USED) Gibson plays tribute to "The King" with this hunka-hunka burnin' love black Dove guitar. Here is what Gibson says about it: "Some of the most enduring images of Elvis Presley are on stage during his Las Vegas years in the 1970s. And nearly every picture shows the King of Rock and Roll with one of the most celebrated acoustic guitars in the world — a custom 1969 Gibson Dove with an Ebony finish. Gibson pays tribute to that guitar with the Elvis Presley Dove Signature Artist Series acoustic, a carefully crafted replica of Elvis’ famed guitar with many of the same features as his original." It's a pretty cool black stained maple guitar alright, with Sitka spruce top, 1 and 23/32" nut width, LR Baggs active pickup (factory installed)and beveled pickguard. The bracing pattern inside the Elvis Presley Dove acoustic is modeled from the vintage Gibson J-30s of the early 1960s and gives the guitar a nice compressed balance. Great singer/songwriter strumming guitar. SOLD

Martin D28 GE
Brazilian Rosewood (2003)
Just arrived (Used) Exc. condition. Martin introduced the D28GE series in 1999. It was the last production model from Martin to feature Brazilian rosewood. This particular guitar, # 454 of the series, was built in 2003. It features extremely fine straight grained quarterswan Brazilian rosewood and equally impressive Adirondack spruce. The sound is classic Martin D28 with warm bass, scooped mids, and great ka-chang. Really a beautiful example, featuring Waverly tuners, fossil ivory nut, saddle, and bridge pins - the factory "pepperoni" pick guard has been replaced with a nice Greven 40's style pick guard (seen in photos). The 2003 retail price (model is discontinued, Martin has no more Brazilian rosewood) was $15,000. This is an EXCEPTIONAL example and we think priced appropriately at $9,500. The guitar stands toe to toe with some of the top guitars here in the shop: Tony Rice Pro, H&D TDR, Bourgeois, etc. A very fine Martin guitar in very fine condition - one medium-deep scratch on the top - otherwise basically new appearance. If you want the classic Martin tone in a modern more reliable guitar - this is the guitar for you. $8,950 SOLD
Merrill Brothers OM-18 sunburst Just arrived (USED) (EXC.) Another Merrill Brothers OM-18 - It's a fact. Jim Merrill builds one of the highest quality reproductions of a vintage OM-18 ever made. The last Merrill we had caused quite a stir and made believers of us all. Here comes another one, sunburst this time. Wanna play? Merrill builds a guitar that looks, sounds, and feels, EXACTLY like a vintage Martin. Moe had a 1932 Martin OM-18sb here ($26,500) and the Merrill OM-18sb (dark amber burst) looks like it, feels like it, and sounds as good or better. All the others (We have Collings OM1, OM1A, OM1ss and Bourgeois custom OM and Huss and Dalton TOM-A here) have less woof in the bottom and less warmth than a Martin (and a Merrill) but all have stronger mids and stronger trebles than the Martin and Merrill. The Merrill has the *same* scooped mids, strong bass, and relatively weak (let's call them "soft") trebles of the Martin. The Merrill sounds and feels like an old guitar. The neck feel is identical to the 1932 Martin. It is a superlative example of a vintage recreation. It (here comes the wit) does not have an original bone in its entire body (except a truss rod) as it is a reverse engineered (hate that term) *perfect* interpretation (better term) of a 1930's Martin. Fine guitar. The Merrill is a 2002, serial # 000273 SOLD

Rockbridge OM/OOO Brazilian Rosewood Just arrived (USED) (EXC.) A 2007 Rockbridge. Our first Rockbridge. This one has some fine straight grain Brazilian rosewood, a very thin finish, and some very fine Adirondack spruce on top. We're just getting to know it, but we'll say it is a delightfully even sounding guitar with a smoothness and warmth that immediately distinguishes it. The short scale makes it a very easy player and the Gibsonesque neck has an oil varnish satin finish. Some very well thought out features. We've spoken with Brian Calhoun, the builder, and he tells us that this guitar used his very highest grade woods. This guitar sold new in 2007 for $7,000. Used, it was priced at $5,300. It is now priced at $5,150 - a GREAT price for a fine Brazilian rosewood guitar, wouldn't you say? Trades considered. $5,150

Santa Cruz Tony Rice Pro Just Arrived (USED) (EXC. condition ) More Great Stuff! Coming in on trade, the ever-popular "Tony Pro". In Bluegrass circles, these guitars are held in the highest regard. Tony Rice re-defined modern Bluegrass flatpicking and this guitar is built to his specs: Very well quartered (STRAIGHT GRAIN) Brazilian rosewood and fine European spruce top with a hint of bearclaw. The remaining specs (slightly shorter scale, sharp "V" neck, enlarged soundhole, etc.) are typical of the model. The Brazilian rosewood and German spruce for this guitar were originally sourced by Steve Swan. This TR is slightly heavier than the average SC build, and the guitar has a very full voice with plenty of volume. As TR Pros go, one of the loudest and most percussive we have heard. A VERY, VERY, VERY fine Bluegrass guitar. (BB) SOLD
Tippin OO-12 fret
lake salvaged sitka
(USED) Excellent. This is a superb example of a highly desirable Tippin OO 12 fret rosewood guitar. It was built in June of 1997 and has magnificent and unusual spruce top. We contacted Bill Tippin about the guitar and he told us about the very old wood used for the top: "That top is Lake Salvage Sitka which we called "Salmon Spruce", because it was salvaged from these very large storage boxes for salmon that was caught for market . They would store the fish in these underwater boxes to keep them fresh and alive, a practice abandoned somewhere around the turn of the century. The boxes were left there submerged until the late 1980's when I bought as much of the wood as I could at the time, and is no longer available. All the guitars built with it sounded great." It is certainly a sweet sounding guitar in extremely nice condition. We're finding this guitar, even in this shop stuffed full of very high quality guitars, hard to put down. It likes to be played hard, and has plenty of thwack and headroom. It has a VERY strong thump for fingerstyle blues and ragtime. 1 and 3/4" nut, fairly girthy vintage neck profile, wood rosette, impeccable fit and finish, vintage style thin pyramid bridge, slotted headstock, Waverly tuners. Very unusual to find a 25.4" scale length on a 12 fret OO. Fine craftsmanship, excellent sound. A few dings on the headstock and some scarring where it hung on peghead hook. Other than that, excellent + condition. Mighty fishy!! 3,650
Tippin OM-T sb
Adirondack top
(USED) Excellent. This is another superb example of a highly desirable Tippin rosewood guitar. Built in the late nineties and has a nice mediun dark sunburst and Adirondack spruce top. From Bill Tipin of Marblehed, Massachusetts. Very cool. A medium sized guitar that does everything extremely well. 1 and 3/4" nut width, Adirondack spruce topped Indian rosewood guitar with a very attractive sunburst. VERY clean lightly used guitar. Excellent + condition. Let's call it thirteen years old. This guitar can be played fingerstyle very well but it also seems to like a flatpick. One thing: This is an OM that can keep up with dreadnoughts, I am telling you. excellent + condition and MAGNIFICENT sounding! $3,950 SOLD
Weber Bruce Weber Tenth Anniversary model (USED) Well...let me say this. We here at Acoustic Music Works have heard our share of good mandolins. We've fingered a few Nuggets, a Gilchrist or three, more good Collings and Stivers than we can count, a '23 Loar, a mess of vintage Gibsons, and a few Randy Woods, Smarts, and Red Diamonds. Well you get the picture. Charley Rappaport teaches here and keeps us honest where mandolin tone is concerned. In our time, we've handledd a dozen or so very fine sounding modern mandolins that have borne the signature of Bruce D. Weber. Some were Flatiron Artists, some were Gibsons, and one or two were Webers. We have a mandolin here that simply rivals *any* mandolin we have ever handled for fit and finish, tone, and playability. We simply cannot say enough about this instrument: It is superb. Bruce Weber set out to build TEN of these mandolins to celebrate the Tenth Anniversay of his Weber Mandolin enterprise. So far he has built two of those ten. This is number two. The special features are many: the back, sides, and neck are of AAAAA grade flame Maple with a gorgeous one piece back. Thers is a crossed f- hole inlay in heel button to signify the 10-year anniversary. The peghead inlay is the “Bruce D. Weber” signature inlay with a small stylized Weber celtic knot. On peghead reverse, the words, “EST. 1997” and serial number “2/10” are inlayed. The nut width 1 1/8 Inches, of fossilized walrus ivory. The body is bound in more of the highly flamed maple with intricate ivory/black/pearl/black/ivory purfling. Even the f holes are bound in ivoroid! (this is just amazing to look at, really). The instrument is finished in a semi-gloss spirit varnish, the truss rod is dual-action adjustable, and it has the Brekke Traditional Bridge with fossilized walrus saddle. The tuners are also the finest available: Gold Waverly with Ebony pegs and it has a 22k Gold- Plated Weber tailpiece. The 10th anniversary mandolin comes with a custom Ameritage case with numbered plaque, and a Small Dog case cover. The mandolin is here on consignment. It is the most highly decorated mandolin we have ever seen, but please don't write it off as being overly fancy. It is a perfect blend of form and function: It has a sound that is half banjo-killing Bluegrass chopmeister and half refined Mandolin Orchestra F-5. Charley says: From Russian Rag to Rawhide, this mandolin drives the bus and hangs with the Big Boys. The back rumbles against the player's ribcage. It barks, it sings, it satisfies. If you collect mandolins, your collection is not complete without this. $19,750 We ship worldwide. ON HOLD
