The day we found out about this set, the guitar went RESERVED (JF)This guitar is extraordinary. It vibrates in your lap when you play it. Notes pour off the back and into the ribcage and heart of the player. It is amazingly responsive and rich. An immediate classic. One of the ten best guitars to come through the shop in the last year. | Bourgeois | Brazilian Signature D | Just arrived (NEW) Dana Bourgeois has found us another very special set of Brazilian roswood - this set is the extreme black stuff with a lot of coloration - we call it "ugly" wood that rings all afternoon. We thought it appropriate to use it on a Signature D since it is a special set. The result is an *exceptionally* fine sounding Brazilian dreadnought - very light weight and full sounding. $7695. This will be our last Bourgeois Brazilian D at the "old" pricing. Signigicant price increase for Brazilian rosewood going into effect May 2008. INQUIRE | INQUIRE

(Custom) "Vintage" Country Boy |
SOLD (NEW) We're pretty well known for our custom mahogany dreadnoughts here. Moe, of Moe's House of Mahogany, has spec'd out a few hundred of the finest custom mahogany dreadnoughts in the form of Collings D1As, Huss & Dalton TDMs, Bourgeois Country Boys, and a mess of good vintage and modern D18s. And we've seen our share of NGCs, SCs, and all the rest. Well here's our latest: a super secret skunkworks project between Moe and Dana Bourgeois. It will be a "Vintage" Country Boy with Honduran mahogany back and sides, Adirondack spruce top, double scalloped "Banjo Killer" X bracing (inspired by and based on the popular Bourgeois Banjo Killer series) all tied together with a few new tricks and HIDE GLUE construction. 1 and 23/32" nut width, tortoise binding, ebony bridge pins, vintage stain, satin finish neck, mahogany butt wedge, Waverly tuners, set up for bluegrass flatpicking. A lightly built (just under 4.2 pounds) traditional foward shifted dreadnought. Dana's hybrid braced guitars are known for articulate bass, perfect balance, and responsiveness up and down the neck. That's why so many top players use them on stage and in the studio. With this custom project, we're thinking about the guy in the parking lot, the guy who wants buckets of volume, woofy bass, and headroom without losing those fat trebles. This will be the prototype. The list price will be $4,450 - Just arrived: A *WONDERFUL* sounding guitar with a lot of subtlety and character. More bass than a standard Country Boy, with additional warmth and sustain. The more we play it, the more nuance we discover - really a great *player's* guitar - really has nice snap and growl. MORE ON ORDER! | SOLD

| Bourgeois | Custom OM Pao rosewood | Just arrived (NEW) A custom Vintage OM with 60-plus year old Pao rosewood back and sides, with premium Adirondack top, black/white top border, fancy cocobolo binding, 1 and 3/4" nut width, pyramid bridge. With the rapidly diminishing availability of Brazilian rosewood, all our builders are looking for appropriate substitutes for the bodies of their premium guitars. About Pao rosewood, Dana says "Pao Rosewood is an African wood that looks a bit like Honduran Rosewood. Tonally it's in the same general category as Brazilian, Madagascar, Honduran Rosewood and Cocobolo. Within each of these species there is considerable variation in tone qualities, with condiderable overlapping between species. A good set of Pao can sound a lot like Brazilian Rosewood, or can have something unique that is rarely found in Brazilian." The first one of these was shown at IBMA and drew these comments: "This guitar was the sleeper of the show. You might imagine at a Bluegrass Show, an OM wouldn't get much attention but the 60+ year old West African Pao Rosewood set used on this guitar made it LOUD and rich and one of the best OM's we've heard. Dana has a few sets of this fine *old* wood. The sound is full of detail without being boomy at all - Brazilian style overtone with a thick sustain. |

| Collings | 16" archtop Sunburst | Just arrived and may we ask for a moment of silence......(NEW) The Mona Lisa, the Tower in our Pizza, the Top, the tip, the &*%@! Honestly, of everything we carry, and oh we do carry the GOOD stuff, the Collings archtop guitars are the things that cause all activity to squeal to a halt here. Everyone in the shop drops what they are doing to ponder, to drool, and explore the fine details of the functional art Collings calls his archtop. We've got seven or eight people in our want list for this obnoxiously fine guitar, and we will begin calling and e-mailing them today after we wipe Moe's saliva off the pickguard of this wondrous beast. It is the 34th 16" archtop from Collings. We see one every 18 to 24 months. We don't expect it to last past 12 Noon today. Moe's hands are trembling. The guitar has been SOLD. | SOLD | ||
| Collings | OM1 custom Maple German | Just arrived (NEW) And now for something slightly different. We don't sell a lot of maple guitars. No one does. We believe that is because most people have never played a great maple guitar. They've played too many brand G and brand T maples that have let them down. Sit down and play a maple Collings sometime! For all of those that are complaining about sore shoulders and are threatening to shelve your dreadnoughts, consider a Collings OM. Fiesty, loud, and proud. What does maple do to an an OM? It adds a fierce presence, quickness, and projection. What does German spruce do to the top? It adds sustain, complexity, and depth. This is an amazing fingerstyle guitar that also flatpicks very well. A great and versatile mid sized guitar worthy of your consideration. We dressed this one up with tortoise binding, style 3 backstrip, fretboard and headstock binding and extra purfling. Oh, and a 1 and 3/4" nut width, of course. | List Price: $5,000 |

| Collings | City Limits Deluxe Premium Quilt | Just arrived and just KILLER! (NEW) Wow, that's all we can say. Collings doesn't have a name for this color yet - kind of a rich chocolatey eruption, with 24 k gold highlights. The premium quilt is somwhere between bonfire and inferno. Like molten lava. Just one of those guitars that as soon as we saw it, we knew we had to have it. I'm suspecting that will happen to some lucky person out there as well. A showpiece. Notice the matching SoCo Deluxe (in transit) below. Makes a nice pair. $5,350 ON HOLD (DS) | ON HOLD | ||
| Collings | SoCo Deluxe Premium Quilt | Just arrived (NEW) This will be a SoCo Deluxe to match the City Limits above. Dramatically quilted top in what Collings is now calling their "Root Beer" color. It is a difficult color to photograph. It's a bright overcast day here and the natural light (outdoor) photos make the guitar look darker and less figured than it is. The indoor photos with flash tend to exaggerate the brightness. The #3 and #4 pics look most natural on my computer screen. #5 is clearly over-exposed to show the intensity of the quilt, but it is an inaccurate representation of the color as a result. The overall visual appeal of the instrument is subtle and elegant. It is not *over the top* like certain PRS Ten tops can be, if you know what I mean. The figured Brazilian fretboard is quite impressive, as is the streaked ebony headstock overlay. Marvelous guitar, of course. $6,450 ON HOLD (DC) | ON HOLD | ||
| Collings | C10 Dlx koaGsb Koa German shade top | Just arrived and simply precious (NEW) We've ordered this DELUXE custom C-10 before, and I am sure we will order it again. Just a delightful small guitar with a sophisticated dark voice and deep sustain. A cowboy guitar for a mighty sophisticated cowboy. Yippie-yi-yo-ki-yay | SOLD | ||
| Collings | OOO3BaaaGss custom Brazilian German VARNISH | Just arrived and just amazing (NEW) A certain melancholy overcomes us as we greet our last ten or twelve Collings Brazilians. As you know by now, there will be no more. These orders, placed several years ago for fine AAA Brazilian guitars, are a weekend at the World Series for us, they are the highlight of our daze. As the media predicts the tenth recession of the last three, and cynics accuse us of driving the price of Brazilian through the roof, we ponder these rare and precious great guitars and smaller issues dissipate with the melting snow. We present this lightly crafted *classic* OOO Collings in AAA grade Brazilian rosewood with the lovliest of German spruce tops, a SHORT SCALE, a pryamid bridge, a slotted headstock with 1 and 3/4" nut width and the three on a tree bronze Waverly tuners. Did we fail to mention the abalone rosette, the CW pickguard, and that sonic soup, that surreal syrup of sound, the Collings VARNISH finish? The varnish over the Collings logo makes it look like 100 year old stained glass Ahhh, forgive us for getting giddy over a guitar like this. It's pretty, but oh my gawd...it just sounds AMAZING. The varnish finish imparts a deep warm, aged sound that is just unobtainable in a new lacquer guitar. The Brazilian is fine, but the German top is *superb*! It feels loose. It sounds old. It purrs like a Porche and it vibrates in ones lap. | SOLD | ||
| Collings | OM2G cut German spruce cutaway | Just arrived (NEW) It always takes a good long time to get a cutaway from Collings. It's always worth the wait, and it is rare for us to have one in stock. To have one in stock with a German spruce top is even more rare. But here she is: just a great looking OM2 (no herringbone) in German with cutaway and the 1 and 3/4" nut width, of course. A great sounding guitar with access to, and the appropriate voice for, the highest registers. Very nice! | List Price: $4,750 |

| Collings | C10Mh hog top custom camper Deep Body | Just arrived and just look at her!! (NEW) We get to see a lot of mighty cool custom Collings guitars here. We've had C-10 guitars in just about every flavor. We decided to throw the kitchen sink at this one, because we love this guitar model and it seems to work on so many levels. So here we go: A custom C-10 DEEP body MAHOGANY topped guitar with the modified-V OM style neck and square headstock. Did we stop there? Of course not - a guitar like this needs the FULL BODY VINTAGE SUNBURST. Did we stop there? Silly question. We had them build it light and use a BRAZILIAN rosewood fingerboard and bridge for tone and cool factor on this puppy. Stop there? Never! We added full body, neck, and headstock binding in tortoise with some additional purfling on the fingerboard. We requested the 1 and 3/4" nut width (of course)and nickel Waverly tuners with ebony knobs(of course) and the most fantastic Brazilian rosewood headstock overlay. Owww!! She's got that Brazilian rosewood belly bridge just in case you want to run medium strings and drive her hard, but we had her set up and strung with lights at the factory. She's mighty and she's cool! She's light (3.7 pounds) and she just sings. The deep body adds a fullness that actually makes this an ideal all around guitar. Sized somewhere between a C10 and a CJ, she's more like a C-13. She's a thumb-thumper and a strummer: she's a picker and she's a grinner. She's a pirate, a poet, and a king. Those of you who ask us to call when something *really* special arrives?? Consider yourself called. | List Price: $5,800 |
Our Price: $5,220 | |
| Collings | C10Mh hog top custom camper | Just arrived (NEW) Oh, how we love the Collings C-10. We think it is the most versatile guitar that Collings builds, and many of our customers have several of them. Here's one you probably do not have. It's a C-10 hog top camper. What we mean by that is it's a light and loose mahogany L-OO style guitar with a mahogany top and an OM style neck with 1 and 3/4" nut width. So it's like a funky cool blues guitar with a "modified V" OM neck, man! Oh, and it's got nickel Waverly tuners with ebony buttons. And oh, it's got your name on it. Take this 3.7 pound puppy camping, and you might never come back! Lose yourself in the dark with a good guitar. Disappear into your inner woods. Go deep. Good for what ails ya. Ol' Jeff went camping...we aint seen him since. | List Price: $3,950 |

| Collings | OM1 koa German | just arrived (NEW) Oh my! We try to get several of these koa OMs each year, as Collings locates the most magnificent koa for us, and we are never disappointed. We have a special fondness for koa guitars, particularly those topped with good German spruce. So we present our first 2008 Collings OM1koa-G. Just a perfectly clean basic OM1 enhanced by richly flamed koa back and sides, and that melodious German spruce top. 1 and 3/4" nut width of course. The koa on this guitar is positively delicious, with striking three dimensional figure and depth. And speaking of depth, the guitar has that exotic tonal richness that comes from German spruce, mixed with that dark haunting reverby overtone of koa. A particularly handsome and sophisticated sounding guitar. | List Price: $5,450 |

| Collings | C10 Maple | Just arrived (NEW) We love our C10s here. Collings' most versatile guitar. We've not met one we have not liked. This current one features gorgeous flame maple back and sides with sitka top, nickel Waverly tuners, and 1 and 3/4" nut width. Not too fancy, just good. Darned good. Nice stiff Adirondack spruce top with some bold red streaks. No mistaking this top for anything other than Red spruce! Great guitar for someone who wants a dual purpose flatpick/fingerstyle OM with lots of bass, plenty of volume, and above average punch and cut. Fresh pics. | List Price: $4,525 |

| Collings | C10sb custom | Just arrived (NEW) An industrial strength guitar for a good man who has paid his dues and now wants to play the Blues. Perhaps the coolest guitar that Collings makes, we love it in every flavor (koa, maple, rosewood, you name it) but for the Blues, Moe thinks that mahogany is the Katz peejays. This one is a regular working man's mahogany git-box topped with mannish Sitka spruce and bound in ivoroid to provide a nice contrast against the ever-so-masculine Collings dark vintage sunburst finish and the Gibsony firestripe tortoise style pickguard. Testosterone and tortoise, lumber and love. For the big man who's not ashamed to cry. Nickel Waverly tuners with ivoroid knobs and 1 and 3/4" nut width. A handsome guitar that indicates a deep respect for the good stuff. A *GREAT* sounding mahogany C-10. Really has that bluesy sound. |

| Collings | OO-1 Hog Top custom | Just arrived (NEW) Be still Moe's heart! Another one of our OO1-Mh ("Mh" for master grade "mahogany top") specials. These are mighty and warm and sweet fingerstyle guitars. Normally these OO guitars have 1 and 13/16" nut width and that keeps some people from exploring and enjoying them. So we build them like this for pure utilitarian goodness. Mmmmm...good! A nut width that we can all enjoy. A custom OO "Hog Top" with a user friendly 1 and 3/4" nut width and 2 and 3/16" saddle spacing. On this one, we did retain the slotted headstock for those purists among you. As always, our best to you! | List Price: $4,250 | Our Price: $3,825 | |
| Collings | C10 Mh custom | Just Arrived and Just killer!! (NEW) Moe confesses a particular affection for the hardwood topped all-mahogany guitar. Face it, very few of Moe's customers have just one guitar, and we don't generally recommend a hog-top guitar as one's primary axe, but for the special purpose, blues, open tuning, ragtime, cranium re-booting, fresh idea guitar - a Hog Top can be a fresh breeze, a plateau buster, and a wakeup call. With tortoise binding, nickel Schaller tuners, 1 and 3/4" nut width, and pickguard on the side, this simply appointed guitar is all meat and no pudding. Mighty fine!! Moe spent a few precious moments this afternoon "birthing" this guitar and oh how sweet she is. At first strum, she gave off a harp-like sizzling flurry that turned every head in the shop. When he dug in, the guitar revealed its true personality, that of ballsy blues guitar, with intimidating headroom and thwack. A few were heard to say, "that guitar just sings", but Moe prefers to say "this guitar takes no prisoners". This guitar inflames Moe's testosterone. This guitar is the perfect remedy for that what ails ya. $3,850 | List Price: $3,850 | Our Price: $3,465 |

| Collings | O2-Gsb | Just arrived (NEW) These 14 fret O bodied Collings have been a *big* hit for us - quite different than their slightly larger 12 fret OO cousins. This O-2 "hold the H" (no herringbone) is a custom model with German spruce top, 1 and 3/4" nut width, pyramid bridge, and that famous and fabulous Collings sunburst. This small guitar, and it is a small guitar, packs a powerful loose punch and has fat trebles and sustain which will ruin you for larger guitars. It also has a very full low end. Of the O's we've known, and we've known a few, this one has the most impressive bass. East Indian and German, I've been telling you! It's all there. No one will suspect this is your "travel guitar" if you know what we mean. We know of what we speak. C'mon over. | List Price: $4,750 |

We had our doctor, our blues-buddy Ernie Hawkins, spend fifteen delightful minutes with this guitar. (see the pics) Ernie called it "a guitar that has all its parts" and "a guitar that loves the key of F." That's a little cryptic, but oh he made the guitar sing. It has a HUGE bootom end on it, not maple-bright at all. In fact, Ernie called it "warm, dark and dry." It's a blues guitar. It's a rocking blues guitar. | List Price: $5,375 | Our Price: $4,838

CJ custom mahogany Short Scale |
Just arrived (NEW) A regular custom offering for us - a SHORT SCALE mahogany Collings Jumbo with sitka top. Very Gibsonesque, like a J-50 on the juice. The last one loked like this and was a loose cannon with room filling warmth. We had hoped it would stay around longer, as it is an excellent guitar for someone unfamiliar with a short scale Collings to experience. Less stiff, but somehow more filling. We always try to have this model in stock or on order, and five minutes with this guitar will explain why. Reminds us very much of this 1958 Gibson J-50 that we use as a reference for these things. Extremely versatile guitar with wide dynamic range. Loose but loaded, full but not stuffed, subtle not strident, warm but never hot. A grownup's guitar. |

This one's about one and a half years old and looks essentially as it did when it left here new, with only light player wear. Been played just enough to develop the Adirondack top a good bit. | Collings | 0001-A cutaway | Just arrived (USED) From one of our best customers. He's a fine gentleman with magnificent tatse in guitars. This guitar would be the jewel of any collection, but he's got others that he plays more often. You see, he's found contentment with just two guitars (perish the thought!) and has others that aren't being played much. So, he's consigning them one by one to us, thank you. Just arrived: This is a FINE Collings OOO in mahogany with an Adirondack spruce top and a cutaway! Yee Doggies! Very unusual and fortuitous to find a cutaway on a Collings OOO. And while we are discussing fortuitousness, let me direct you to these very desirable custom features: a solid headstock with a 1 and 3/4" nut width and 2 and 3/16" saddle spacing. A brilliant custom model. Lists new for over $5,800. My, oh my, what a well conceived guitar! It has arrived, it is grand, it is in near mint condition. This Collings OOO is graced with some fine figured mahogany and beautiful tight grain German spruce, 1 and 13/16" nut width, no pickguard, pyramid bridge, 2 and 5/16" saddle spacing, and slotted headstock. That is a wood combination that we know well and we are delighted that it will be here ON CONSIGNMENT. Fresh pics. Sweet sounding guitar! | Collings | 290 Doghair | Just arrived! (NEW) Just purchased at the 2008 NAMM Show in Los Angeles, this "doghair" Collings 290. | Martin | 1953 O-18 | Just arrived (USED) A *sweet* little 1953 O-18 - perfect little birth-year gift for your favorite 55 year old. A well seasoned, well played small guitar from the Eisenhower administration. This guitar knows all the old songs, and the guitar looks its age. It's been re-fretted several times (and again just last week) and has a new bridge and prefectly intonating saddle. It has many repaired cracks, about 20, and all are solid. This guitar has seen it all. It's a lightly built guitar and we've got it strung with silk and steel strings. It has a bright and woody sound and we think it's good for another 50 years. | SOLD
| Bourgeois | A-350 | Just arrived (USED) Oh my! A *superb* A-350 Dana Bourgeois archtop in violin finish sunburst. Generally, we can only count on one of these per year - and it's always a VERY good day when one arrives. We sold this guitar new last year, and it still looks new. Beautiful in every way. An extremely fine instrument, worthy of the finest player. You perhaps? | $4,850 | ||
| Gretsch | Model 35 - 1930's | (USED)Just arrived Just arrived (USED) Looks like a 1936 or later Gretsch model 35 archtop. 16" lower bout like an L-5. Dark brown/red sunburst, raised black pickguard, pearl scroll logo, 3 on a side die-cast tuners, trapeze tailpiece, adjustable bridge, white binding with pearloid purfling, black plastic headstock overlay, rosewood fretboard. Plenty of honest player wear and tear - two repaired top cracks, several more recent splits, dings galore, but nothing unusual for a guitar this age. It appears quite solid and worth consideration of repair and regular use. It is not a trophy guitar. Comes with beat chipboard case with poorly functioning latches, possibly original. The binding on the back is shrunken and has some splits, indicating that the back may have been removed at some point to facilitate some internal repairs. There is no visible serial number. The owner of the guitar claimed it was a 1933. Our research indicates it is a 1936 or older (1936 being the year Gretsch added the adjustable bridge and the black headstock overlay.) The fingerboard is Brazilian rosewood, indicating it may be as late as 1939. (a 1933 would have had an ebony fretboard) Plays and sounds GREAT! | $995 | ||

This is a very good example of his work, a 1993 A model with a scooped and radiused fretboard and a pro pickguard installed. The mandolin has the *classic* Stiver sound, with lots of bark, volume, and plenty of punch. This mandolin has been played a LOT in its fifteen years and has lots of scratches and some finish checking, and the finish has worn through behind the nut. Lots of peg-winder scratches on the headstock. All the flaws are cosmetic only - the instrument is extremely solid and has been recently re-fretted and set up by Lou Stiver. The sound is WIDE open. It's ready for its second fifteen years. ON HOLD (TI) | SOLD

Just arrived (NEW) Gimme a "T" for Texas. Chuck Lee's fine sounding Whyte Laydie salutes the Yellow Rose of Texas! You know how we feel about Chuck Lee and his banjos. There is nothing quite like them, and this is his finest effort yet. Possibly our favorite "standard" Lee model, the Glen Rose, has an *Electric* (a.k.a "Whyte Laydie") tone ring that really barks with the big dogs. For this milestone banjo (#400) our friend and banjo wizard of Ovilla, Texas pulled out all the stops. This banjo features the curliest of curly maple and a "take me back to Texas" theme with yellow rose with vine inlay and Texa flag on the headstock. The business end of the instrument features scalloped nut, new "friction" tuners with gear reduction, frailing scoop, and a Texas ton of banjo tone. Art that causes one to dance. Really quite special. | SOLD
